Hello Archive,
This is a fantastic photo, but it is NOT a photo of Helen Hayes. There is a lot of confusion over photos like this of my grandmother HELEN BROWN. The reason for the confusion is: Helen Hayes Brown and my grandma BOTH danced for the Ziegfeld Follies in the late twenties - before the former changed her name to just Helen Hayes. Perhaps this is why she changed it.
We have several photos in this series. There's another with her looking at the camera in this pose (used in a newspaper clipping about Helen Brown from Newark, NJ) and a third where she's dancing "on point".
Our family has just discovered the confusion and is systematically going to every website and book publisher making this mistake to try and clear it up. We have clippings, etc. we can send you if you need proof.
